The Academy Awards 2024

Date Published 29 February 2024

There is just over a week to go until the 96th Academy Awards, otherwise known as The Oscars! On Sunday March 10th, hundreds of global stars, directors, writers, musicians and more will descend on the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood LA, among those being a handful of hopeful nominees who have a shot at winning a much-coveted Academy Award.

The Awards have a rich history, with the first such event held on 17th May 1929. Since then then the Oscars have gotten bigger and more glamourous each time they've come back around. Past notable winners include Audrey Hepburn, Dennzel Washington, Kate Winslet, Anthony Hopkins and Walt Disney, who himself won a record breaking 22 awards out of 59 nominations.

This year's awards will likely be dominated by two of the biggest and most starkly contrasting films, which also happen to have been released on the same day on 21st July 2023 – the hilarious and nostalgic ‘Barbie', and the dramatic and gripping ‘Oppenheimer'. Both very different films to say the least but hugely successful and entertaining in equal measures.

It's not unheard of for there to be drama and excitement at an Academy Awards ceremony, so stock up on some drinks and popcorn, clear your diary and prepare to witness the next legendary Oscar winners on March 10th!
