Happy St George`s Day!

Every year around the 23rd of April, people all across England celebrate the feast of the country's patron saint, St George. Flags are flown, traditional music is played, morris dances are danced.
In London, the main event takes place at Trafalgar Square, where the city hosts a free, family-friendly festival.

Here in Highgate, you may notice local pubs serving up drink specials or see people flying the St George cross.

Here are a few fun facts to get you in the holiday spirit:

St George is the patron saint of many countries and cities in addition to England including Portugal, Ethiopia and, of course, Georgia Winston Churchill's personal aircraft during WWII was named โ€˜Ascalon' after the sword with which George is said to slain the dragon in the medieval and early modern period,

St George's Day was as important as Christmas in England i n the 21st century, there has been a push to bring back celebrations of St George's Day and politicians from different parties have campaigned to make it a public holiday
