He's Behind you!

It's that time of year again. After nearly a 2 year break UK theatres are back!

This can only mean one thing………… Pantomime season is upon us!

Pantomime or 'Panto' as it's affectionately known, dates back to the Middle Ages. It is a mixture of Italian Commedia dell'arte and British Music Hall. 'Commedia dell'arte was a form of travelling street entertainment which originated from Italy in the 16th century and British Music hall is a type of British theatrical entertainment. This was popular from the early Victorian era but it started to faded away after 1918 as the halls rebranded their entertainment as variety.

The plot is very simple:

The girls dress as boy's the men dress up as women, there is a goody and a bady, normally in the form of an Evil stepmother and there is always a happy ending.

There is lots of audience participation, with heckling from the audience with the actors coming off script to accommodate.

Pantomime is here to stay and is enjoyed by all ages. It is the perfect family day out and you are sure to leave the auditorium fulfilled with Christmas joy!
