On the back of half term being over its great to have a child friendly week of pancakes and dressing up to ease us all back into the school weeks but what do they all mean?
Pancake day the traditional feast day before the start of Lent – traditionally a time of fasting, Pancake Day (or Shrove Tuesday) was seen as the last chance to use up eggs and fats before the 40-day fast, with pancakes the ideal way of using such ingredients. Observed in many Christian countries the ritual burning of the previous year's Holy week palms, finalizing one's Lenten sacrifice as well as eating pancakes and other sweets. The tradition is said to go back to 1445 from a housewife from Olney, Buckinghamshire. I know the team have enjoyed making the most of eating delicious treats this week.
