A slightly later blog entry this week, following some great results (and a couple of shockers) from last weekend, the focus has been mainly on this season's final stages of the Summer transfer window.
Following from last season's record of £1.120bn spent in the premier league summer window, we've smashed it again with an incredible £1.4bn being splashed out by the top flight's 20 clubs. Following from PSG's recent signing of Barcelona legend Neymar for a world record £198 million, we've seen a huge inflation in the market, with players arguably worth only £15 million last season, suddenly being valued three times as much this season.
Nevertheless, there have been some fantastic signings this time round, notably: Everton's Romelu Lukaku joining fellow Northerners Manchester Utd for £75 million, Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette joining Arsenal for £46.5 million, and, coming as a huge shock for everyone, a delighted Swansea City managed to convince PSG's Portuguese hero Renato Sanches to join on a season-long loan, what a steal!
However, following the closing of the transfer window last night, some players have been left in limbo after deals failed to get pushed through at the last minute. Arsenal's Sanchez, who's commitment has been in question for a while now, was looking to reunite with his former manager at Manchester City. With an offer on the table for £55 million plus £5 million in bonuses, a deal still couldn't be reached. Other top players such as Riyad Mahrez, Coutinho & Van Dijk also failed to transfer to their preferred clubs - it would come as no surprise to see most of them 'down tools' until they move clubs.
Finally, as a quick reminder of last weekend's scores, the notable results are as follows: Bournemouth 1-2 Manchester City, Newcastle 3-0 West Ham, Manchester United 2-1 Leicester City, Chelsea 2-0 Everton, Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal, Tottenham 1-1 Burnley.
