It’s springtime, the clocks have gone forward, temperatures are rising and summer is on the way and everything just seems a little better when the sun is shining.

I have had the perfect morning watching my children scurrying frenetically around the garden collecting eggs, which my husband AKA the Easter bunny hid at 6am. I should mention they are 16 & 18 but this tradition never seems to grow. They have just finished bartering and trading the abundant chocolate harvest over breakfast and I marvel how this simple annual event constantly delights.

As I sit here with my cup of tea I have decided that Easter just might be my favourite holiday. It just doesn’t have the pressure of Christmas, expectations are lower, and you are not obliged to spend weeks preparing for hoards of visitors and buying elaborate gifts. An inexpensive chocolate egg is all that is required and you can simply decide to do as you as please over the four-day ‘mini-break’.

There is no denying that Covid has had a devastating effect on many and it has been easy to feel negative having spent much time in lockdown focusing on the restrictions and rules caused by this terrible virus.

Whilst we are not out of the woods yet there is cause for optimism, we are being vaccinated and things will get better. So this Easter holiday reminds me that the simple things can make us happy and I am going to do my best to think of my metaphorical glass as being full and I am optimistic the wine glass that accompanies todays roast dinner will also be.
